1. Traditional products themselves must have waterproof and dustproof requirements, such as cameras, LED lights, outdoor lights, etc., all of which have air tightness testing requirements.
2. Newly developed smart products are also imposing clearer waterproof performance requirements, such as smart bands, smart watches, Bluetooth speakers, etc.
3. Products that have been upgraded from their original functions with additional waterproof, dustproof, and sealing requirements, or products whose IP rating has been raised, or products that previously had no special requirements for waterproof, dustproof, and sealing performance. Such as smartphones, sports speakers, Bluetooth earphones, diving watches, diving cameras, electric toothbrushes, motors, electric shavers, waterproof sockets, etc.
Since 2013, domestic manufacturers—whether ODM, OEM, or OBM—have officially placed the sealing performance, waterproof performance, air tightness testing, and air tightness inspection of their manufactured products on the quality management agenda. Some industry-leading manufacturers have already taken the lead in implementing a full online inspection quality mechanism for their products, achieving the capability to save and upload inspection results for traceability, and establishing an interlock safeguard mechanism between sealing testing, air tightness testing, and other quality inspections.
Why manufacturers now attach such importance to sealing tests, waterproof tests and air tightness tests for products using air tightness testing equipment comes down mainly to the following reasons:
1. Quality determines the market! Only when a product's quality and waterproof performance are superior to those of competitors can it gain a stable foothold and go far in the market. A company with competitiveness and the potential for sustainable development — through this conclusion, it is not hard to understand the phenomenon of "quality going up, price going down," which is what is called cost-effectiveness.
2. Consumers' consumption concepts have already changed! Take the mobile phone market as an example: in the past, consumers never considered what to do if their phone got wet, and simply took it for granted that phones had no waterproof function. At this stage, consumers have begun to ask why phones don't have waterproof functions—the most basic scenario being how to handle rain exposure. As a result, the mobile phone market began with preliminary IPX5 splash-proofing. This has continued to be upgraded and improved to the IPX8 protection rating represented by Apple phones, which requires the use of an air tightness tester to perform waterproof testing on phones.
3. The scope of consumers' usage and scenarios is expanding! Rapid economic development has brought about an improvement in people's living standards, and consumers are experiencing a transition from survival to living — that is, consumers are beginning to enjoy life and the tasteful lifestyle brought by advanced high-tech products. Take the speaker industry as an example: people are no longer satisfied with listening to music in a specific or fixed place. They want music while running, music while surfing, and red wine and music while taking a bath or soaking in a hot tub. This has driven speakers from indoor to outdoor use, then into water, and even into more complex usage scenarios. Air tightness testers are also needed for testing.
4. Technological advances are addressing more complex waterproofing requirements, which in turn is driving demand for waterproofing in related products and accessories! Take automotive cameras as an example. In fact, this type of product already has relatively high waterproof performance, because the water pressure from a car wash spray gun is very high. If the product structure is unstable or the IP waterproof test rating is low, water can easily enter, leading to repairs or the product being scrapped. Even if the camera body structure itself is already well made and the tested IPx waterproof test rating has been improved, another surprising phenomenon appears: water vapor inside the lens! Due to the effects of rapid heating and rapid cooling, water vapor travels along the copper wires in the camera's wiring harness and enters the interior of the camera. Therefore, this means that the goods from camera wiring harness manufacturers must also be waterproof and undergo IPX waterproof testing.
